Who We Are
The Farmers Central Cooperative Society Ltd. (F.C.C.S), a part of Koperattivi Malta, originates in the Zabbar Farmers’ Cooperative of 1947, the first cooperative in Malta, formed to address post-WWII food scarcity. Other farming cooperatives soon followed, uniting to form the F.C.C.S, which aimed to streamline the buying and selling of agricultural products.
Today, the F.C.C.S operates from the Pitkalija Market in Ta’ Qali, employs over 36 people, supports 800 active farmers, and has an annual turnover of up to twelve million euros. The cooperative is committed to future-proofing its operations and investing in land, buildings, machinery, and technology. It participates in EU research projects, focusing on sustainable farming practices and environmental challenges. The cooperative encourages its members to engage in research projects and adopt modern farming practices.
